The Greene County varsity volleyball team defeated Chariton 2-0 Saturday at a tournament in Atlantic. They lost to Norwalk and Winterset in two sets each. The Rams end the regular season 12-19.
“We saw some very strong teams at this tournament which provided a challenging day of action,” noted coach Chris Heisterkamp. “We are continually tweaking our game to improve our skills, get quicker on the floor and striving to play better together as a team. We served great all day, and although we battled in our defense against strong hitters, we saw many moments of great execution for our players.”
Nevada won the Heart of Iowa Conference with a 7-0 record. Gilbert was second a 6-1. The Rams finished sixth in the eight-team conference.
Greene County meets Kuemper Catholic in Carroll tonight (Wednesday) in the first round of Class 3A regional play. Action begins at 7 pm.

Rams 9-10
Norwalk over-powered Greene County in two games, winning 21-9 and 21-10.
Brianna Osterson led the Rams in kills with six, followed by Harleigh Weir with three. Aubrey Heupel set nine assists.
Paige Heaning fed Heupel with five digs. Katrina Heupel, Osterson and Weir each added two digs.
The Rams served well on 19/20 attempts for 95 percent. Weir stroked 7/7; Katrina Heupel had 4/4 and Lily Muir went 2/3 with an ace.
Rams 21-21
Chariton 11-8
Greene County fired 16 kills against Chariton in 21-11 and 21-8 victories. Lily Muir topped the chart with five kills, followed by Osterson with four. Aubrey Heupel set 14 assists.
Heaning covered the defensive floor to record four digs.
The Rams fired nine ace serves in another impressive offensive effort. They were successful in 41/42 attempts for 98 percent. Heaning led the team, serving 13/13 with three aces. Muir went 8/8 with two aces and Harleigh Weir was also 8/8 with one ace.

Greene County had a tough time against Winterset, losing 9-21 and 13-21.
The team was only able to post four kills in the match and no digs. Lilly Muir had two kills while
Osterson and Weir each had one. Aubrey Heupel set four assists.
Serving was not as stellar in this match as the first two. The Rams were successful on 19/22 attempts for 86 percent. Weir stroked 7/7; Osterson 3/3, and Paige Heaning 5/6 with an ace. ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
